Trump hints at opportunity in NH over Dems slighting state in primary
President Joe Biden won that contest through a write-in campaign as he did not appear on the ballot.
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested that the Democratic Party's decision to move New Hampshire out of its first-in-the-nation status during the party primary could spell trouble for the Harris campaign.
Vice President Kamala Harris currently leads Trump by 5.0% in New Hampshire, according to RealClearPolitics.
"Comrade Kamala Harris sees there are problems for her campaign in New Hampshire because of the fact that they disrespected it in their primary and never showed up," Trump posted on Truth Social. "Additionally, the cost of living in New Hampshire is through the roof, their energy bills are some of highest in the country, and their housing market is the most unaffordable in history."
"I protected New Hampshire's First-In-The-Nation Primary and ALWAYS will! To my friends in New Hampshire, get out and vote TRUMP. Together, we will make your State and America Strong, Safe, and Prosperous AGAIN!" he concluded.
New Hampshire has traditionally held the first primary in the election cycle, though it has done so after the Iowa Caucus. The Democrats, this cycle, adjusted their schedule to make South Carolina its first primary. The Granite State nonetheless held a primary in January.
President Joe Biden won that contest through a write-in campaign as he did not appear on the ballot.
The Democratic National Committee announced the schedule change in February of 2023.
"It puts Black voters at the front of the process in South Carolina," DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said at the time.
