Trump jokes of fleeing to Russia after learning of $200K bond in Georgia case
As he did with myriad Russia-related allegations, Trump has contended that the indictment, as well as the three others he faces, are part of a broader political witch hunt designed to derail his political future.
Former President Donald Trump joked that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis must have feared he would flee to Russia after learning that he must pay $200,000 in bond to remain free ahead of trial in her election probe.
A judge set Trump's bond at $200,000 earlier this week and further conditioned his release with restrictions on speaking to his 18 codefendants about the case, except through their attorneys. Trump has indicated that he plans to surrender himself to face arraignment on Thursday, the morning after the Republican primary debate, which he will not attend.
"The failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond from me. I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a 'flight' risk - I’d fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again," he posted to Truth Social. "Would I be able to take my very 'understated' airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, I’d be much better off flying commercial - I’m sure nobody would recognize me!"
Trump's alleged ties to the Russian government have been thoroughly debunked, though they remain talking points among proponents of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.
As he did with myriad Russia-related allegations, Trump has contended that the indictment, as well as the three others he faces, are part of a broader political witch hunt designed to derail his political future. He denies any wrongdoing.
