President Donald Trump on Monday stressed that he would work with European leaders to create security guarantees for Ukraine and to negotiate the territorial swaps necessary to end the Ukraine War.
"I'm optimistic that collectively, we can reach an agreement that would deter any future aggression against Ukraine, and I actually think there won't be," he said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the heads of state of key European leaders.
"We're going to help them, and we're going to make it very secure," he added. "We also need to discuss the possible exchanges of territory, taking into consideration the current line of contact. That means the war zone, the war line center, pretty obvious, very sad actually, to look at them and negotiating positions President Putin, also you have President of Ukraine."
Trump's remarks follow his meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.
