Former President Donald Trump will not choose Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio or North Dakota GOP Gov. Doug Burgum as his running mate, multiple outlets have reported.

The pair had ranked among the three finalists for the post, meaning that Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance now appears the most likely candidate for the job.

Trump is expected to announce his choice of running mate at 4:30 p.m., according to Reuters.

The unveiling will take place at the Republican National Convention and comes in the wake of an assassination attempt on the former president in which an assailant managed to graze his right ear.
