French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced on Sunday that he is turning in his resignation on Monday.
French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced on Sunday that he is turning in his resignation on Monday. This follows news earlier in the day of the results of the second round of the snap elections in which the far-left coalition appears to have won the most seats in parliament.
President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party is projected to come in second, and Marine Le Pen’s populist National Rally is expected to finish third, with none of the three coalitions holding a majority.
France doesn’t have a tradition like a number of other countries in which lawmakers from various political parties come together to form a working majority. Therefore, it is expected to be a period of economic and political turmoil as there is no clarity at this point about who will be Macron's partner as prime minister in governing the country, according to Fox News.
Macron's office announced on Sunday that he will "wait for the new National Assembly to organize itself" before making any decisions.
