Putin political nemesis Navalny in solitary confinement
He said it is the "harshest punishment" in prison and "torture and murder are most often carried out there"
Russian dissident Alexey Navalny says he's now been placed in solitary confinement at the remote penal colony where he is serving nine years for alleged fraud.
Navalny, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, tweeted Monday that jail officials placed him in solitary confinement for attempting to form a prisoners union.
Official cited as reason as Navalny having unbuttoning the top of prison clothing characterizes and called him an "unrepentant, incorrigible villain."
"[T]hey say that unless I 'reconsider my attitude,' it will become my permanent residence," Navalny posted. "It is not clear what attitude I should reconsider. Toward slave labor? Or toward Putin?"
The popular opposition figure survived a 2020 poisoning attempt, which Kremlin critics widely believe was conducted by Russian security services. Navalny recovered in Germany, then returned to Russia where he was inevitably and immediately arrested.
