William Prince of Wales pledged his loyalty Saturday to his father, King Charles III, during his coronation, one of the most poignant moments in the historic, morning-long ceremony.
The prince touched the king's crown with his right hand, then bent forward and kissed his father's left cheek, according to The Telegraph newspaper.
The king smiled and quietly said, "Thanks William."
Prior to that part of of the coronation, built on ancient traditions and filled with pomp and pageantry, the prince swore an oath of allegiance to his father.
The newly enthroned king sat in the center of Westminster Abbey church as his son and heir was brought in front of him from the congregation, according to the Telegraph also reported.
The prince kneeled before the king and declared: "I, William, prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you, and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God."
