Early hurricane season Erick makes landfall in Mexico, near Acapulco, as Category 3 storm

The storm, with its high winds and heavy rains, landed near Punta Maldonado

Hurricane Erick made landfall early Thursday morning in Mexico as a Category 3.

The storm, with its high winds and heavy rains, landed near Punta Maldonado, about 100 miles east of Acapulco, at about 6 a.m. local time, according to NOAA’s National Hurricane Center.

The hurricane made landfall about 20 miles east of Punta Maldonado, Mexico, just after 6 a.m. CDT Thursday,  Winds of 125 mph were roaring around its center at landfall.

Acapulco was devastated by Hurricane Otis in October 2023, according to CNN.
