U.S. embassy in Lebanon hit by gunfire, security guard wounded, alleged shooter captured

According to local media reports, the gunman was wearing a black vest that had the words "Islamic State" written in Arabic and the English initials "I" and "S" on it.

A gunman who opened fire at the U.S. embassy near Beirut was shot by Lebanese soldiers on Wednesday and captured. 

The gunman injured an embassy security guard, according to embassy officials.

According to local media reports, the gunman was wearing a black vest that had the words "Islamic State" written in Arabic and the English initials "I" and "S" on it.

He was described as a Syrian national and the motive behind the incident has not yet been determined.

Fighting between Lebanese Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops has resulted in thousands of people fleeing the area along the border.
