Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a statement Thursday regarding the memorandum of understanding that Iran signed with the U.S.

In a series of posts on X, Khamenei said that President Donald Trump "used all kinds of leverage" out of desperation to get the agreement signed.

Out of a matter of principle, Khamenei said, he held a different perspective, but he granted the head of the Supreme National Security Council permission to sign the agreement. Khamenei declared that if the American negotiators make "excessive demands" going forward, Iran will not submit to them.

"It's self-evident that the in-person negotiations in the future will not mean acceptance of the enemy's position," Khamenei said.
