Israeli Defense Forces launched massive airstrikes early Sunday against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon to preempt what it said were imminent terrorist rocket attacks.

“A short while ago, the IDF identified the Hezbollah terrorist organization preparing to fire missiles and rockets toward Israeli territory,” IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced.

“In a self-defense act to remove these threats, the IDF is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians,” Hagari said.

The preemptive strikes came just hours after Israel also bombarded Hamas locations in Gaza on the eve of critical peace negotiations planned in Egypt.

Flights in and out of Tel Aviv were temporarily suspended Sunday morning as the preemptive strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon were taking place, the airport authority said.
