Mosque bombing in Afghanistan injures 15 people
This marks the third of such attacks on mosques in Afghanistan over the past month.
A bombing at a mosque in Afghanistan wounded at least 15 people during Friday prayers, according to reports.
According to the Associated Press, authorities believe the bomb was placed in the mosque prior to its detonation.
So far no group has taken responsibility for the attack. The bombing occurred in the eastern Nangarhar province, which has been plagued by violent attacks from ISIS-K militants.
This marks the third of such attacks on mosques in the area over the past month.
According to The Hill, since August there has been a sharp rise in bomb-related attacks by ISIS-K on populous civilian areas during Friday prayers.
In response to the string of violent attacks, the Taliban launched counterinsurgency operations intent on destroying potential ISIS-K hideouts in hopes of ending the group's terrorist actions.
A spokesperson for the Taliban intelligence service told reporters on Wednesday that the agency had arrested nearly 600 Islamic State members, many of whom were high-ranking officials or financial donors.
