Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a speech Thursday at the United Nations' General Assembly, claiming he should be ashamed of spreading lies about Israel.

The move comes after Mamdani called for federal authorities to arrest Netanyahu while he's in New York City for the UN, citing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. 

Netanyahu blasted Mamdani for supporting allegedly pro-Hamas individuals like Hasan Piker and accused the mayor of spreading lies about his people.

"To all those spreading these lies about my country and about our brave soldiers, whether they sit in this hall or in the office of the antisemitic mayor of New York, I say this: Shame on you,” Netanyahu said. “Shame on you for distorting the facts. Shame on you for inverting victim and aggressor. Shame on you for spitting in the face of truth, Mr. Mamdani." 

Netanyahu said Jewish people in New York City are afraid to live there and that they have told him how the city appeared to change overnight with Mamdani's election. 

“You falsely, repeatedly accuse Israel of genocide,” Netanyahu said. “Mr. Mamdani, you tried to stop me from coming here. You tried to silence me. Well, you can’t silence me. You can’t silence the truth. Israel didn’t commit genocide. Israel prevented genocide."

Mamdani accused Netanyahu of being the leader to spread lies, claiming Israel's actions in the war with Hamas did amount to genocide against the Palestinian people.

“As he has done time and again, Prime Minister Netanyahu used his speech to repeat baseless lies meant to sanitize his genocide of Palestinians,” Mamdani told Fox News. “Yet no lie can change the fact that he remains the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity."

Although Mamdani has said the U.S. should enforce the arrest warrant, federal authorities are not expected to do so and the U.S. is not a party to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC.
