Netanyahu open to ending political stalemate, sharing prime minister post with rival Gantz
Netanyahu's offer follows three votes in the past year that have all failed to result in a conclusive winner
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly offering to serve as prime minister for year-and-a-half and then relinquish the post and allow his political opponent Benny Gantz assume the role.
The power-sharing proposal comes after three elections in the past year in which neither Netanyahu, the leader of the Likud Party, or Gantz, the leader of the Blue and White Party, has secured enough support to form a government.
Netanyahu indicated that the two parties had finished negotiations over a national unity government that would include the prime minister swap, according to the Jerusalem Post.
However, it's unclear whether Gantz has accepted the offer.
In the latest round of voting, Gantz has the support of small majority of lawmakers, but it is not evident if he will succeed in putting together a governing coalition.
The proposal also comes as the powerful Middle Eastern Nation, like nation around the globe, deals with the coronavirus crisis.
