The Russian captain of a cargo ship that had collided with a U.S. tanker, was charged with "gross negligence manslaughter" over the death of a crew member, said British police on Friday.

Vladimir Motin, 59, the captain of the Portugal-flagged cargo vessel Solong, is scheduled to appear in Hull Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The crew member remains missing and is now presumed to be dead.

His vessel collided with the MV Stena Immaculate, which was transporting jet fuel for the U.S. military in the North Sea.

Police arrested Motin  in England on Tuesday, the day after the collision occurred.
