Top aide to McDaniel to resign, one day after RNC chairwoman met with Trump in Florida, report
The aide, McDaniel chief of staff Mike Reed, will reportedly resign in the coming weeks
The top aide to Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel reportedly said Tuesday that will resign – a decision that comes after former President Trump in the two previous days got involved in RNC matters.
The aide, McDaniel chief of staff Mike Reed, will resign in the coming weeks, according to an email obtained by Politico.
In the email, Reed said he wants to prioritize his “growing family [that] needs and deserves my attention.”
He has been in the job since January 2022.
Trump, during an interview Sunday on the Fox News Channel, hinted at possible changes at the RNC but also said he was not in charge of the group.
He then reportedly met with McDaniel on Monday at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida to discuss changes to the committee, which has money problems and has overseen three consecutive election cycles – 2022, 2022 and 2023 – in which the GOP has either lost or underperformed.
Some party members have put the blame on McDaniel, appointed to the chairwoman post after Trump was elected in 2016.
Among them are former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has called on her to resign.
Reed said in the letter to colleagues: “Chairman McDaniel has had great conversations with President Trump over the last few days and weeks. She will continue to lead this organization to merge seamlessly should [Trump] be the nominee.”
Trump is leading in all the GOP primary polls for 2024 and is expected to be the nominee.
