House Oversight Chairman James Comer on Thursday appeared to endorse "Squad" Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to replace Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin as the top Democrat on the committee.

Ocasio-Cortez threw her hat into the ring to replace Raskin last week, challenging Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly for the position. Raskin announced that he was looking to move to the House Judiciary Committee in the next Congress instead.

Comer, a Republican, said that he is a "big fan" of Ocasio-Cortez, who also goes by her initials of AOC, and that he has a better relationship with her than he did with Raskin, The Hill reported.

“I’m a big AOC fan,” Comer said on CNN. “Obviously, I don’t agree with very much of her policy, but I think she’s a good person, I think she’s very well spoken."

The Republican noted that he thinks Connolly would also make a better ranking member than Raskin, and that he "look[s] forward to working with the next ranking member," whoever it is.

“If it’s AOC, I think we’ll have a good working relationship," Comer reiterated. "We’ll obviously have a lot of differences on policy, but I think she’s a good, well-spoken person for the Democrats to serve in that position."

Comer will continue in his role as chairman of House Oversight in the next Congress, which is set to begin on Jan. 3. Ocasio-Cortez is currently the vice ranking member of the committee.
