Conservative group releases ad blasting Montana Democratic senator's immigration record
The ad highlights Tester's previous remarks on sanctuary cities, amnesty and the border wall.
A conservative group aligned with the Senate GOP leadership spent over $15 million on an ad buy criticizing Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., for his voting record on immigration.
The ad, which is scheduled to run through this summer, highlights Tester's previous remarks on sanctuary cities, amnesty and the border wall.
The ad was produced by One Nation and began airing on Friday, according to Politico.
“Tell Sen. Tester, stop supporting Biden’s border disaster,” the ad states, alleging that Tester “voted repeatedly to fund sanctuary cities like New York."
“He even voted to allow President Biden to stop building the border wall," the ad also says.
The ad started airing just days before the upcoming scheduled Senate impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer previously set April 11 as the date he was going to swear in the senators as jurors for the impeachment trial, one day after the articles of impeachment are scheduled to be delivered to the Senate by the House speaker and the impeachment managers.
Earlier this year, the House voted 214 to 213 to impeach Mayorkas over his handling of illegal immigration at the southern U.S. border.
“The evidence on both charges is clear, comprehensive, and compelling, and the House’s solemn act to impeach the first sitting Cabinet official in American history demands timely action by the Senate,” House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote in a letter to Schumer.
However, aides to Senator Schumer indicated this week that he will likely schedule a vote on either a motion to dismiss or a motion to table the charges, according to The Hill.
