Fetterman remains in hospital, senator's office says tests so far show no seizure, second stroke

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman remained hospitalized after feeling lightheaded Wednesday and going to a hospital, but his office says tests so far show the freshman Democrat did not suffer a second stroke, after having his first during his 2022 senatorial campaign.

Fetterman was taken to George Washington University Hospital after feeling faint while attending a Senate Democrat retreat near the Capitol Building. His office said Thursday night the tests included an MRI and so far also show he did not suffer a seizure.

Fetterman communications director Joe Calvello also said the 53-year-old senator was still being monitored with an electroencephalogram, which measures brainwaves, according to Fox News. 

Fetterman has a stroke in May 2022 that resulted in auditory processing and speech problems that four several months kept him off the campaign trail.

The stroke occurred just two days before Pennsylvania's Democratic primary. Fetterman had a pacemaker with a defibrillator implanted to manage two heart conditions, atrial fibrillation and cardiomyopathy.
