The GOP-led House voted 311-114 to expel Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., on the House floor Friday, trimming the GOP's already slim majority.

House Speaker Mike Johnson made the formal announcement on the House floor after the vote.

He said the governor of New York would be notified about the vacancy and the House now has 434 members.

Santos did not answer questions as he left the U.S. Capitol building.

Santos has acknowledged having fabricated much of his resume for his winning 2022 congressional campaign.

He was indicted in October of this year in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on numerous federal charges, including wire and credit card fraud in connection with campaign contributions.

More recently, the House Ethics Committee investigation found that Santos misused campaign funds for personal expenses and "engaged in fraudulent conduct in connection with RedStone Strategies LLC."
