Democratic House leader Jeffries calls Jordan 'clear and present danger to the American people'
Jordan has already lost two rounds and is headed into a third round of voting.
House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries called GOP Rep. Jim Jordan a "clear and present danger to the American people" ahead of the his third attempt on the chamber floor to become speaker.
"We are going to be here as long as it takes to end this national nightmare," the New York lawmaker said prior to the vote.
About eight of the House Republican Conference's most hard-right members ousted California GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker more than two weeks ago.
Jordan has already lost two rounds and is headed into a third round of voting.
Jeffries was asked by reporters if he would consider voting for Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., for speaker as an alternative, bipartisan solution.
"I've said repeatedly that there are many Republicans on the other side of the aisle who we believe are good Americans, good patriots and good men and women," Jeffries responded. "Patrick McHenry is one of them. There are others."
He later added that the GOP needs to stop embracing extremism.
