A total of 48 House Democrats on Tuesday helped Republicans in the lower chamber pass the "Laken Riley Act," which provides law enforcement with more authority to detain illegal immigrants who have been accused of theft-related crimes.
The legislation passed the House in a bipartisan 264-159 vote, which saw a total of 48 Democrats side with all Republicans to pass the bill. But seven of those Democrats previously voted against the legislation in the 118th Congress last year, or did not vote at all.

Eleven of the 48 Democrats were new House members, according to The Hill, and four Democrats who voted in favor of the bill last March have since left the lower chamber.
New Jersey Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer decided to sit Tuesday's vote out despite voting in favor of the legislation in March.
The Senate is expected to vote on the act later this week.
