House Judiciary Committee presses Garland for DOJ briefing on security for Supreme Court justices
Jordan and Issa wrote Garland a letter expressing concerns for the security of Supreme Court justices in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Trump
House Judiciary Committee Republicans are pressing Attorney General Merrick Garland to authorize a Department of Justice briefing for the committee on security efforts for Supreme Court justices, citing the assassination attempt on former President Trump as heightening their concerns.
"Accordingly, in light of the heightened rhetoric and the recent assassination attempt on President Trump, we remain concerned about the security and safety of all judicial branch officers—including and especially the safety of Supreme Court justices," Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, the committee's chairman, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet, wrote to Garland on Tuesday.
"As such, we request a staff-level briefing regarding the Department’s efforts and the steps taken to ensure and bolster the safety of Supreme Court justices. Please arrange for this briefing to occur as soon as possible, but no later than August 6, 2024," they added.
