House majority leader not confident Democrats have the votes to pass Senate infrastructure bill
"Nope," replied Hoyer when asked if the bipartisan infrastructure bill can pass the House today
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is not confident that the Democrats have the votes Thursday to pass the President Biden's infrastructure bill.
"Nope," Hoyer replied when asked if he is confident that the bipartisan Senate infrastructure bill will pass the Democratic-led House today.
The bill passed the Senate but hasn't moved in the House.
Many progressives have said that they will vote against the bill if the Democrats' $3.5 trillion filibuster-proof budget reconciliation bill isn't passed first. House Progressive Caucus Chairwoman Pramila Jayapal said recently that there are enough votes from progressive Democrats to sink the infrastructure bill.
Moderate House Democrats have pushed for a vote on the bipartisan Senate infrastructure bill as opposed to waiting for the completion of the final budget reconciliation bill.
To pass the reconciliation bill framework in August, Pelosi negotiated with moderate Democrats and had agreed to hold a vote on the Senate infrastructure bill by Sept 27, three days ago. As of Thursday morning, Pelosi was not backing down from holding a vote on that bill.
