McCarthy will allow vote Tuesday on Gaetz's bid to remove him as speaker
McCarthy had two days from the time GOP Rep. Gaetz moved Monday to remove him as speaker to bring the matter before the House but will do so Tuesday
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will on Tuesday allow a vote on fellow GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz’s motion to oust him, less than 24 hours after Gaetz filed the paperwork.
McCarthy could have brought up Gaetz’s motion any time within two legislative days after the Florida congressman made the move on Monday evening.
But he told his told his House Republicans Conference in a meeting Tuesday morning that he would bring it up later in the day, according to The Hill newspaper.
McCarthy said Tuesday morning that "keeping government open and the troops [paid] was the right decision. If I lose my job so be it."
