Only House Republican who voted for George Floyd police reforms says pressed wrong button, report

Texas Rep. Lance Gooden, the only House Republican to vote Wednesday night for the chamber's Democrat-led George Floyd policy reform measure, says he pressed the wrong voting button.

The measure, named after Floyd, who in May 2020 died while in police custody, intends to ban chokeholds and create national standards for policing.

Gooden explained that in all of the excitement he put his finger down on the wrong button, according to the Daily Beast.

The Washington Post reports that Gooden, a supporter of former President Trump, wrote in a since-deleted tweet: "I accidentally pressed the wrong voting button and realized it too late... I have changed the official record to reflect my opposition to the partisan George Floyd Policing Act."

The bill has already passed 220-112.
