Sen. Chris Murphy hospitalized after suffering stroke, office says
“He is responding well to treatment,” Herwitt said in a statement. “The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”
Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut was hospitalized Saturday after suffering a stroke, his office announced Sunday.
Murphy, 53, began experiencing numbness in his arm while attending his son’s hockey game Saturday afternoon, according to Allison Herwitt, his chief of staff.
He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a stroke. He was later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further monitoring, the Associated Press reported.
“He is responding well to treatment,” Herwitt said in a statement. “The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”
No additional details about the severity of the stroke or a possible timeline for his return to work were immediately available.
