Republican Senator Daines' Twitter account suspended apparently over hunting photo

Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, was suspended from Twitter on Tuesday for allegedly violating the platform's sensitive media policy by making his profile picture one of himself hunting with his wife.

The profile and heading photos on Daines' account, @SteveDaines, are blank and all posts from the account have been replaced with "@SteveDaines's account is temporarily unavailable because it violates the Twitter Media Policy."

Twitter suspended Daines because his profile picture featured a photo of him and his wife, Cindy Daines, posing a photo of a pronghorn they hunted, according to Axios.

Twitter's media policy states that "exceptions may be made for religious sacrifice, food preparation or processing, and hunting."

The senator's account was seemingly suspended, reinstated, then suspended again minutes later.

Daines' suspension sparked outrage among fellow Republicans.

"Stop censoring our Montana way of life!" Montana Rep. Ryan Zinke tweeted.

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted: "Twitter has ridiculously suspended Sen. [Daines] because his profile picture is of him and his wife hunting...What a disgrace!"

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted: "If you don’t like hunting, fine, don’t go. But don’t censor others who disagree. And I’m pretty sure this is a formal job responsibility for a senator from Montana!"
