Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, and others, alleging that it isn't using artificial intelligence to benefit humanity, therefore abandoning the company's founding mission.

Musk followed the lawsuit Thursday in a San Francisco court.

“To this day, OpenAI, Inc.'s website continues to profess that its charter is to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity. In reality, however, OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft,” the lawsuit filing reads, according to NBC News.

Musk was a cofounder of OpenAI, but stepped down from the board in 2018.

His attorneys wrote in the lawsuit that OpenAI prioritizing maximizing profits for Microsoft contradicts the company's founding mission to use AI for the good of humanity.

“Under its new Board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity,” the filing states.
