Fani Willis says she won't testify before Republican-led Georgia Senate panel
Willis is leading an investigation into whether former President Trump and co-defendants attempted to meddle with the 2020 election results.
Fulton County Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis reportedly said Monday that she will not testify before a Republican-led Georgia state Senate panel investigating her.
Willis made the announcement at an event related to her reelection in which she also said the panel might not have the authority to subpoena her, according to The Hill newspaper.
Willis is leading an investigation into whether former President Trump and co-defendants attempted to meddle with the 2020 election results.
Revelations about her having had a romantic relationship with a male attorney she hired to help prosecute the defendants in the case resulted in allegations of impropriety and calls for her to step down.
However, a judge ruled in March that she could continue the prosecution, if she or the special prosecutor, Nathan Wade, stepped down, which Wade did.
“I don’t think they even had the authority to subpoena me, but they need to learn the law,” Willis said Tuesday, reported by Fox 5.
She also said she has “not broken the law.”
“I’ve said it amongst these leaders; I’m sorry folks get pissed off that everybody gets treated equally,” Willis said.
The state Senate is looking into whether Willis and Wade used taxpayer dollars during their relationship.
