A federal judge has sentenced a North Carolina man to 27 months in prison for making death threats against then-President Biden and a Secret Service agent.

The Justice Department announced Monday that Michael James Ferr, 31, of Raleigh, was sentenced on Friday to two years and three months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Ferr pleaded guilty to the charges in August.

On Jan. 10, Ferr posted multiple disturbing comments on X, including death threats to Biden, according to court documents and other information presented in court.

During an interview with Secret Service agents four days later, Ferr threatened to kill one of the agents.

“This sentence makes one thing clear: threatening to murder the President of the United States or any federal agents sworn to protect our nation will bring swift and serious consequences,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Ellis Boyle said in a statement.

“We do not tolerate violent statements that cross the line into criminal threats. Our office will continue to defend the safety of our public officials and stand firmly behind our law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us every day.”
