Supreme Court rules with web designer in case related to LGBTQ+ rights, free speech
In a 6-3 decision, the high court said the web designer, as a creative professional, has a free speech right under the Constitution’s First Amendment
The Supreme Court on Friday ruled in favor of an evangelical Christian web designer who refuses to work on online, same-sex weddings.
In a 6-3 decision, the high court said Lorie Smith, as a creative professional, has a free speech right under the Constitution’s First Amendment to refuse to endorse messages with which she disagreed, according to NBC News.
Smith, as a result, cannot be punished under Colorado’s anti-discrimination law for refusing to design websites for gay couples, the court ruled.
