Major European leader says 'there would be no war today' if Trump were president
Orban, who visited Mar-a-Lago last week, said he discussed potential U.S.-Hungry trade relations with Trump during his visit.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called former President Donald Trump a "president of peace" and said that if Trump were president, "there would be no war" in Israel or in Ukraine.
Orban released a video on X, formerly Twitter, praising Trump on Sunday after he visited the former president's Mar-a-Lago Estate in Florida last week.
As president, Trump "commanded respect in the world, and thus created the conditions for peace," Orban said in the video, according to English subcaptions. "During his presidency, there was peace in the Middle East and peace in Ukraine. And there would be no war today if he were still president of the United States."
Orban also said that he and Trump agreed that there will be peace when world leaders are in power who want it.
Trump, who is on track to secure the Republican nomination for president, discussed potential U.S.-Hungry trade relations with Orban during his visit.
"It is up to Americans to make their own decision, and it is up to us Hungarians to frankly admit that it would be better for the world – and better for Hungary, too – if President Donald Trump were to return to power," Orban also said.
Orban has had a strong relationship with Trump for nearly a decade. He was the only European Union government leader to embrace Trump as a candidate in the 2016 election, according to Politico.
