The Department of Defense, renamed the Department of War by President Trump, has completed a high-profile airlift of a cutting-edge nuclear reactor as part of a broader federal push to modernize America’s energy capabilities and strengthen defense infrastructure.

On Sunday, military cargo aircraft transported a next-generation nuclear reactor from March Air Reserve Base in California to Hill Air Force Base in Utah, where it will soon be moved by ground to the Utah San Rafael Energy Labin Orangeville for testing and evaluation.

The mission, carried out aboard a C-17 transport plane, is intended to implement a recent executive order Trump signed that accelerates domestic nuclear energy innovation and explores how advanced reactors could support remote military operations, critical facilities, and national security goals, according to the White House.

Images shared by the Department of War showed the reactor loaded and secured inside the aircraft, demonstrating the technical and logistical effort that was required to move such a complex system.
