Rubio pauses most 'foreign assistance awards' for 90 days
The guidance was issued to all U.S. diplomatic and consular posts.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday paused spending on the majority of “existing foreign assistance awards” for a period of 90 days.
The guidance was issued to all U.S. diplomatic and consular posts.
"No new funds shall be obligated for new awards or extensions of existing awards until each proposed new award or extension has been reviewed and approved," reads the memo to staff, according to the BBC.
Rubio's guidance follows through on President Trump's executive order, which directed the State Department to halt foreign aid grants for 90 days, pending a review conducted by the secretary.
