Transgender individuals sue Trump administration over eliminating 'X' gender on passports
The department will also no longer allow anyone to change the gender listed on their passport.
A group of transgender individuals is suing the Trump administration for eliminating the "X" gender on passports.
The State Department has began only issuing passports with male or female genders.
The department will also no longer allow anyone to change the gender listed on their passport.
The seven people filing the lawsuit are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union.
"The plaintiffs in this case have had their lives disrupted by a chaotic policy clearly motivated by animus that serves zero public interest," said Sruti Swaminathan, staff attorney for the ACLU’s LGBTQ & HIV Project, according to Fox News.
The Associated Press published a story on Saturday that included some interviews with individuals identifying as transgender who the outlet said have been impacted by the new passport policy.
The AP reported that Lisa Suhay wanted her 21-year-old daughter to obtain a passport so she could leave the country, if needed, due to the Trump administration's gender policies.
