Bronx apartment fire leaves multiple injured, including 5 firefighters
The fire was fueled by massive winds and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A massive fire broke out in a Bronx apartment in New York City early Friday morning, resulting in multiple injuries.
The fire started just before 1:45 a.m. on the upper floors of a building on Wallace Avenue, according to local media.
Strong winds fanned the fire, the cause of which was still under investigation by Friday afternoon.
"Heavy fire destroyed all the apartments on the top floor, burned through the roof," said New York City Fire Department Chief John Esposito said. "Initially we had fire companies inside, conducting searches, removing people and attempting to fight the fire. The fire had too much headway, it's extremely dangerous to our firefighters."
Firefighters ordered residents of the building to evacuate. Five firefighters and two residents suffered from smoke inhalation.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said none of the injuries is life threatening injuries and also said the wind "played a major role."
