Car plunges into Potomac river after crashing on Arlington Memorial Bridge

A pickup truck on Thursday evening collided with another vehicle on the Arlington Memorial Bridge between Virginia and Washington, D.C., and plunged into the Potomac river, according to D.C.'s Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
Traffic on the bridge has been closed by U.S. Park Services, according to NBC Washington.

One person was in the vehicle that fell into the river, the department said, and was transported to a nearby hospital in "critical life threatening condition." Two other people from the crash on the bridge had been transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Additional searches around the sunken vehicle did not find any other victims, the department said.
Drivers are asked to avoid the Arlington Memorial Bridge, Rock Creek Parkway, and Ohio Drive.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
