Pastor, sons facing federal charges after allegedly selling a fake coronavirus cure
A judge reportedly order the men in April to stop selling the concoction
A Florida pastor and his three sons are facing federal charges for purportedly selling a bogus coronavirus treatment.
The treatment – which they called “Miracle Mineral Solution” – was in fact making those who ingested it sick, according to authorities.
The concoction was reportedly sold through an entity named Genesis II Church of Health and Healing in Bradenton, Florida, according to a criminal complaint.
A Miami federal judge in April ordered the self-styled church to stop selling the substance. However, Pastor Mark Grenon and sons Jonathan Grenon, Jordan Grenon and Joseph Grenon reportedly ignored the order.
The men also claimed the substance could cure cancer, autism, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and AIDS, according to the complaint.
The men are charges with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to violate the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and criminal contempt.
Mark Grenon’s home was raided Wednesday, and the men could face a maximum 17-plus years in prison if convicted on all charges.
The solution sold by the Grenons becomes a bleach when ingested and is typically used for such things as treating textiles, industrial water, pulp and paper, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
