California's Los Angeles county will likely continue maintaining some type of coronavirus-related restrictions into the summer, officials say.

Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said during a Tuesday Board of Supervisors meeting that stay-at-home orders "with all certainty" will continue for three months, though she expressed hope that the restrictions can be gradually removed during the coming months.

In an emailed statement to the Los Angeles Times Ferrer explained the county is "continuing its progress on the road to recovery, with planned reopening of beaches for active recreation and an expansion of permitted retail activities coming tomorrow."

LA County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger issued a clarification about Ferrer's remarks in which she noted, "Relaxing the restrictions in the 'Safer at Home' order is an important focus for the County, which will be done gradually over the next few months."

The county says it is currently in stage two of its five-stage plan.

“Additional restrictions may be lifted later this week to allow for reopening additional retailers for curbside pickup, select manufacturers, and additional recreational facilities,” the county said in a statement Tuesday. “Until the final stage five is reached, Health Officer Orders and directives will continue to ensure the slow of spread of COVID-19 to prevent an overwhelming surge of COVID-19 cases at healthcare facilities.”

LA County reported Tuesday that 92 percent of the 1,613 people who have died from COVID-19 had underlying conditions.
