Army fires or suspends more than a dozen, including two generals, over Fort Hood violence

More than a dozen soldiers have been fired or suspended at Fort Hood, Texas, amid a series of violent episodes that include murder, sexual assualt and suicide, the Army secretary announced Tuesday.

"I have determined the issues at Fort Hood are directly related to leadership failures. I am ... disappointed that leaders failed to effectively create a climate that treated all soldiers with dignity and respect and have failed to reinforce every ones’ obligation to prevent and properly respond to allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault," Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said while talking to reporters Tuesday at the Pentagon.

The 14 who were fired or suspended include officers and enlisted, and two generals, the Army said. 

The service also ordered policy changes to address failures in leadership at the massive Army post, midway between Austin and Waco.
