Secret Service 'totally responsible' for design and execution of security at Trump rally: Director
“At that particular site, we divided up areas of responsibility, but the Secret Service is totally responsible for the design and implementation and the execution of the site,” Cheatle says
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle says the agency was “totally responsible" for the security for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign rally this past weekend in which a gunman fire shots about 150 yards away from the event, killing one person and wounding several others including Trump.
“At that particular site, we divided up areas of responsibility, but the Secret Service is totally responsible for the design and implementation and the execution of the site,” she said in an interview Tuesday night on CNN.
Her statement comes amid amid back-and-forth about whether local law enforcement or the Secret Service was responsible for securing the area Saturday from which the gunman fired, which was outside the primary security perimeter.
The gunman, Thomas Crooks, 20, shot from a rooftop before being killed by a Secret Service sniper.
