Supreme Court upholds law requiring China-based TikTok to divest
The high court's nine justices were unanimous in the ruling
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the federal law banning TikTok in the U.S. beginning Sunday unless it’s sold by its China-based parent company.
The high court's nine justices were unanimous in the ruling, according to the Associated Press.
The law was enacted because of national security concern, with the app having over 170 million users in the U.S.
No buyer has publicly emerged with the deadline now two days away.
If the deadline passes without the sale, new users won’t be able to download the app and updates won’t be available, which will eventually make the app unworkable, the Justice Department has said in court filings.
