Trump tells Speaker Johnson stand tall on border security in funding deal, says 'invasion' must stop
"I have no doubt our wonderful Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, will only make a deal that is PERFECT ON THE BORDER," Trump wrote.
Former President Donald Trump is urging House Speaker Mike Johnson not to cave on the border deal, saying to "reject it" if it doesn't stop the flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border.
“I do not think we should do a Border Deal, at all, unless we get EVERYTHING needed to shut down the INVASION of Millions & Millions of people, many from parts unknown, into our once great, but soon to be great again, Country!” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social on Wednesday.
The deal among lawmakers reportedly included allowing 5,000 immigrants per day to enter the U.S. and issuing work permits to immigrants who American authorities release into the U.S. from the border, according to Immigration Accountability Project.
Multiple conservatives spoke out against this deal, saying they weren't going to be pushed into it.
"I have no doubt our wonderful Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, will only make a deal that is PERFECT ON THE BORDER," Trump wrote. "Remember, without Strong Borders and Honest Elections, we don’t have a Country!!!”
On Wednesday, Johnson had a meeting with President Joe Biden and said there needed to be "substantive policy change" at the southern border.
Johnson reportedly urged Biden to end the "catch-and-release" policy that allows federal authorities to release migrants into the U.S. with a notice to appear in court at a later date after they are encountered at the border.
