Idaho legislators advance resolution asking Supreme Court to overturn same-sex marriage decision
The resolution still has to be adopted by the state's GOP-controlled full House and Senate before a formal request can be sent to the Supreme Court.
Idaho lawmakers on a state House committee passed a resolution this week asking Supreme Court to overturn its Obergefell v. Hodges same-sex marriage decision.
The resolution still has to be adopted by the state's GOP-controlled full House and Senate before a formal request can be sent to the Supreme Court.
The resolution requests that the Supreme Court reverse the 2015 decision allowing same-sex couples to marry, and permit states to once against regulate marriage.
“Since court rulings are not laws and only legislatures elected by the people may pass laws, Obergefell is an illegitimate overreach,” reads the resolution.
“The Idaho Legislature calls upon the Supreme Court of the United States to reverse Obergefell and restore the natural definition of marriage, a union of one man and one woman," it also reads.
