New estimate puts Hurricane Helene damage as high as $47 billion

A new estimate reveals that Hurricane Helene damage could cost as much as $47.5 billion as another storm barrels toward Florida.

Helene, a Category 4 hurricane that made landfall on September 26,  devastated parts of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

An analysis from the data analytics firm CoreLogic found that many residents with property losses from Helene did not have a flood insurance policy. 

CoreLogic "offers unmatched insights across the entire property ecosystem to help our clients rise to the biggest challenges in the market," according to its official website.

According to the CoreLogic analysis, about $20 billion and $30 billion of uninsured flood losses occurred as a result of Helene.

In total, CoreLogic found Helene caused between $30.5 billion and $47.5 billion in wind and flood losses across 16 states.

An earlier estimate from Moody Analytics found Helene caused up to $34 billion in damage.
