Biden 'confident' in legal authority of student debt relief plan as Supreme Court arguments begin
Biden implemented the program unilaterally without Congress.
President Joe Biden said on Monday that he is "confident" he has the legal authority to implement his student debt relief program as it heads to the Supreme Court.
Biden had implemented the program unilaterally without congressional action and it has been tied up in the courts.
"I'm confident the legal authority to carry out that plan is there. I promise you. I have your back and there's so much more we can do," Biden said at a black history month reception at the White House.
The Supreme Court hears oral arguments on the student debt plan starting on Tuesday.
