Rubio reportedly orders Iran's foreign minister and his delegation to leave New York early
Despite hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, Iran’s president and foreign minister and their delegations were granted visas to attend the annual meeting of world leaders, but when informal peace talks failed to make progress, Rubio lost patience with the Iranian guests.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered Iran's foreign minister and his delegation to the U.N. General Assembly to leave New York earlier than they had originally planned.
Despite hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, President Donald Trump granted Iran’s president and foreign minister and their delegations visas to attend the annual meeting of world leaders.
President Masoud Pezeshkian left New York the day after he spoke at the U.N. last week. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had stayed behind, apparently to participate in indirect talks with the U.S. about the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, ending the conflict and resuming negotiation over Iran's nuclear program, the New York Post reported.
Unnamed sources told the Post that Rubio lost patience after the talks were failing to make progress and told the Iranians on Monday that Araghchi and his delegation had to leave New York immediately.
Ararghchi and his team departed New York early Tuesday.
