Defendant in Illinois July 4 parade shooting plotting second attack when arrested in Wisconsin

The defendant in the July Fourth parade shooting in Illinois was plotting a similar attack when apprehended in Madison, Wisconsin, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

The revelation was made by Eric Rinehart, the attorney for Illinois' Lake County, in a press conference after defendant Robert Crimo III was ordered by a judge to be held without bail.

"He seriously considered using the firearm in his vehicle to commit another shooting," said Rinehart, in whose county the mass shooting occurred.

The 21-year-old Crimo was charged overnight with seven counts of first-degree murder in connection with the sniper-style shooting from a rooftop. Prosecutors have promised dozens more charges.

Reinehart also said Crimo has admitted to firing into the crowd of attendees at the parade in Highland Park, outside of Chicago,

Also Wednesday, several news agencies reported an eighth person was killed in attack. However, Reuters later reported the death toll remains at seven. 

Crimo reportedly had over 60 rounds remaining and a second rifle in his vehicle when apprehended.
