Connecticut dominates San Diego State to win fifth NCAA men’s basketball championship
The Huskies, who began the season unranked, rose from the No. 4 seed in the West bracket to win college basketball’s coveted prize.
Connecticut capped a dominant NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Monday night by defeating San Diego State 76-59 to win its fifth national championship since 1999.
The Huskies, who began the season unranked, rose from the No. 4 seed in the West bracket to win college basketball’s coveted prize under colorful coach Dan Hurley, the scion of a successful basketball family.
“This group just had a lot of confidence, the way we played the majority of the season,” Hurley said in explaining his team’s championship run.
UConn’s Adama Sanogo, a junior center, finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game and averaged more than 20 points throughout the tournament to win the most outstanding player of the NCAA championship.
